Pantone has named Classic Blue as Colour of the Year in 2020.

Julianna says, “Classic Blue is set to appear in all areas of the home, from external and internal finishes, to home appliances. To name a few; PGH Bricks Academy Quantum Splits in Dark Blue, Laminex Olympia Blue, Dulux Master Blue, and SMEG®, 50’s Retro style aesthetic refrigerator in royal blue. You may find adding this colour to your home nerve-wracking at first, however small items can still have a big impact.”

Andrea adds, “Blues are such easy colours to live with as they are soothing and add a sense of tranquillity.  Blues such as Dulux Cold Current inject a beautiful mood and sophisticated ambiance.  Blues can be used any most spaces throughout the home. Casual living spaces, bedrooms and also the outdoor alfresco space.”

Easy to live with, blue can be used in most spaces. Consider blue glassware to create serenity in your space.

How to add Classic Blue to your home

With a neutral foundation, a splash of Classic Blue will add more depth and vibrancy into any space.

“Whether it is a piece of art with hints of Classic Blue, a textured cushion or throw on a couch to an expansive living room rug with calming blue swirls, Classic Blue does not need to dominate but to complement a space,” Julianne says.

“Consider glassware such as vases on the bedside table or in the living room to create a hypnotic serene feeling.

“Classic Blue is such a recognisable, reliable colour. From an emotional, psychological standpoint, it represents tranquillity and reliability. It ties closely to the sea and the sky.”

Andrea says, “Blues are calming colours and are on the cooler side which helps with spaces facing north and west. Blues are also quite timeless and can be schemed with many other colours.”

Let’s get personal

Classic Blue, as a bold, yet composed colour, can be incorporated into a suite of home styles and palettes, depending on your mood!

“Adding a pop of Classic Blue to a neutral colour palette can be achieved through homewares such as cushions, throws, vases, rugs and books. If you prefer lighter or darker Blues, you can also incorporate multiple shades, which are always guaranteed to complement each other nicely,” says Julianna.

“Don’t be afraid to pepper Classic Blue into your home where you think it is unconventional.  The master ensuite could be transformed into a cool oasis with a splash of Classic Blue in the textured towels or a punchy feature light.”

Andrea adds, “This type of blue is the perfect blue schemed with greige/neutrals, grey and whites for a perfect contrast.  Simply by adding a deep blue cushion or throw on your neutral sofa, immediately brings a focal point.   Also you can add simple vases or lamps in this colour.”

“Classic Blue is quite commonly featured in Hamptons design. You will often see it introduced through ginger jars, decorative objects, artwork and table lamps. This works best with a neutral, coastal colour palette, with crisp white Walls and timber floorboards. It’s all about keeping things light, bright and breezy.” Julianna concludes.
